So yeah....I had a lufferly time on my trip...that Friday was a LONG day, though. Got up, drove to VA to see Kirsten's new house (which technically isn't new...as they've lived there for almost a year...I'm just a sucky enough friend that I hadn't made it up yet)...chilled for about an hour, and then we headed the rest of the way up to PA. Long drive, but some nice, quality time with her...and Chili's for din-din. YAY! :) Finally get to the Bedrock, drop her off, and then it's time to head on over to H and J's. One thing I must also add is that I always know I'm in the Bedrock when I have to dodge a million and a half animals in the road. I mean, I live in a pretty country-like town here in SC too (and have to do my share of dodging animals), but first thing I almost hit in PA is a possum (or opossum....I like it w/o the "o")....then some deer...then the next night is a raccoon...and some more deer.
Now, let me explain to you what the good, old Fall Foliage is. It's this craft/food type festival that's an institution in the Bedrock. As a kid, I have so many memories of making sand and candle art...and also slaving away at the booth that our private school had every year. (Apparently, Christians don't have a problem pimping kids out for child labor..er...I mean...allowing them to assist in fundraising for a very precious cause...*cough* Yeah...that's totally what I meant.) But in my old age, Fall Foliage means only a few things...FOOD (I salivate for my fried veggies..fried cauliflower, mushrooms, and zucchini...YUM...and um..hello..funnel cakes!!! Though I haven't had one for the last two years...), dodging people that I used to know when I lived there (because I totally hate the awkward run-ins with people that I either don't like and/or the people that stopped being my friends after I moved away and do the fake "OMG! How ARE you?!?!? We should stay in touch better!!!!"....however, they then forget about you and refuse to contact you back...and then talk about you behind your back...stellar), and I can't forget my favorite of all...SLAVE LABOR. Janet has a boooooth there, in which she sells bags and scarves. This was the third year she has done it, and I think she does a little better each year. The first year, however, CRAZY....fun times...getting in on Friday just to be put to work until 4:30 am, so you can wake up at 6 to be in by 7. Fab-u-lous. Seriously, even the kids in Chinese sweatshops get 2 hours of sleep. But I digress...
I think, however, that my favorite event this year was Janet's new boyfriend. Everyone may think that's glorious, but I'm totally not sincere (am I ever? j/k...) Boyfriend was this guy that "looked" normal...but then exhibited crazy stalker behavior. He first came in while she was crocheting a scarf and decided to watch her/talk to her. However, BF apparently didn't have the spatial awareness thing going on as he proceeded to get all up in her grill. See picture below.

I know he doesn't look THAT close in this picture, but he was...and the best part was when he decided that he would start tugging on her stretchy pants. I forgot to mention this, but none of us had ever met him. So meanwhile, Hoov (her clone...alright, "twin") and I are cracking up and texting back and forth about him...and I also decide to snap a picture on my phone, of course...bahahahaha. I mean, seriously, we need Kodak moments like these. BF eventually decides to leave...15 minutes later. I must also mention that we just call him Boyfriend, because he didn't give a name (and no one asked). However, he decides to stalkerishly walk back and forth in front of the booth every other minute for about a half hour or so...not kidding. He then decided to go stand a ways away but keep staring into the tent. Also, I might also mention that NORMAL people typically look away when someone catches them staring, but NOPE...not Boyfriend! He pops up again an hour or so later, but this time, he has a backpack, and get this...a fannypack. No lie. Fannypack. HAHAHAHAAAA! The question is now, "Where did they come from???" Yeah...no one knows...he clearly stashed them somewhere. We then get ready to leave at closing time, and he's still hovering...which he does for a long period of time, and we all walk while looking over our shoulders to make sure he's not following us to the car. Hoov and I then tell Janet that we bet he'll return the next day.

And he did. (And yes, those are, in fact, the same clothes he had on the day before...my wager is that he slept under the bridge...) At this point, he then comes in the tent and asks if she crocheted any cashmere scarves the night before. Her reply is that she went out for drinks instead....at which point he offers her a beer out of his backpack. Seriously....why does she get all the good ones? Why can't all of us have that kind of love??? Bahahaha...(I'm totally making her read this post too...). He stays for awhile, talking beer, but then books it out when another friend comes in to visit the booth. We think we're saved...until Kirsten and her hubs get there, and I go out to greet them, only to discover that BF is in the tent next door. He then repeated his back and forth/staring behavior...and finally Ben (Kirsten's hubs) follows him and runs him off. Oh, to have a suitor like that...it makes my heart go pitter and then pat. And then some. HAHAHAHA!!!!!
But all in all, a fun weekend that went way too fast. Here are some pics for your enjoyment...

Then, on Sunday, it was back to Kirsten's. We had some fun on the ride back. My favorite part, I think, was towards the end...we were listening to the Twilight soundtrack, and we would start quoting lines from the scenes in which the songs played. And ad-libbing, of course. PRICELESS. And then had some more vampire time when we got to her house, because we totally had to watch it together. (Did I mention we're down to the last days? 30 and some change, peeps!!!) But alas, she had some appointments the next day and had to work that evening, so we parted ways early in the day...but I got to have lunch with my friend, Brandie, that I worked with at Liberty, and it was so fun! It'd been 2 years...way too long.
And then home. I just wish I lived closer to my friends (Upstate SC friends excluded). With Hoov, Janet, and Kirsten, it's deee to the lightful that I still have friends that I have known since I was 6 and 8 years old...and the nice thing is that the friendship never really changes. But in a good way, of course. We've known each other from the awkward kid stage...(think puffy paint, stretch pants, horrendous glasses, etc.) to the "beginning to grow up" stage...first boyfriends, horrific hair, transition to contact lenses BECAUSE of the awkward kid stage..lol...to the now "grown up" stage (though I must admit that I don't feel grown up, and neither do they). So it has a lovely familiarity feel. I also wish I saw my friend, Melissa, more...she moved to the East coast two years ago, and I've only seen her once. However, we have our regular phone chats, and again, nothing has changed. She and I went through some fun stages too...my favorite was the crazy hair stage...which coincided with the rolling the eyes at the 16/17 year old girls who could/would only talk about lipgloss stage. FAB! (And the beginning college stage was fun too, I must admit.) And I feel bad about the fact that my WA friends probably think I hate them since I've only been back once in the last 6 years since I've moved. But at the same time, all of them are really at different stages of their lives anyway. Married with multiple babies, for the most part. I love that about them, and they make the cutest couples and have the cutest babies...but that's just not me at the moment.
So in the meantime, I will just wonder while I wander....
Oh, and in the meantime, while we were talking about Twilight and New Moon (FINE...I know we weren't talking about them, but I had to use some form of a segue..even if it was a lie...), fellow Fanpires should really pick up the special People Edition this month...because I did...and such. Don't judge me.
