Fair warning. Depending on who you are, you may hate this post. However, I make no apologies for it. This is MY blog, so I say what's on MY mind. And I must tell you that I'm fairly un-PC....I have no desire to be "politically correct" in this world, and I refuse to succomb to what the "world" sees as "right." I'm a Conservative, for the most part, but I'll also tell you that politically, I do not consider myself either Republican or Democrat. That may shock some (especially certain friends), but when I vote, I NEVER straight-party vote. If you do, that's your choice, but I've come to realize that just because someone is from one political party, it doesn't always make them the best candidate. Ok, off soapbox for THAT section ;)
ANYWAY....I've been really sick for almost the last week. It's this cough/cold thing that's been hanging on, and because of it, my sleep pattern has gotten really weird. It's not as bad as it was this past weekend, but I'm still recovering. ANYWAY....a number of days, I slept through the day, but then I'm unable to fall asleep at a decent hour. SO...I'm up at all hours of the night. I've been trying to organize some of my junk, and I've had the TV going in the background...and I've noticed something. I have seen a LOT of advertisements for "Plan B; 1 Step." For those of you who don't know what that is, it's better known as the "Morning After Pill."
I have a really big problem with this little pill. The world has pimped this thing out...basically, it's saying, "Ok, it's the morning after....you forgot protection? It's ok...take this little pill, so it can 'take care' of it.".....But here's the thing. I'm big pro-life (or anti-abortion...whichever way you want to swing it). And I believe that human life begins at conception. Which also means that I believe that this precious, little "Morning After Pill" kills a human life and is equivalent to abortion. It's funny, because through the years, I've met a number of people who are also "pro-life/anti-abortion," but they believe in this pill. Please explain this to me? Conversations with these people have typically gone well...but I just don't understand some people's callous disregard for human life.
I'm a living example of an unwanted pregnancy. For anyone who's reading this and doesn't know me, I'm adopted. I was given up for adoption at birth and was officially with my family at 5 months old. I'll also add that I don't have any desire to seek out my birth parents as some adopted children do. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing for adopted children to seek out their birth families (as many do feel a need to do so), but I've never felt the need to do so. I was raised in a wonderful, loving family, and I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. Ok, maybe sometimes...(KIDDING!) However, I also realize that due to my situation, the easiest way out for my birth mother would have been to have an abortion. I was an unplanned/unwanted pregnancy, but she still chose to give me life. Though she knew she wasn't the ideal person to raise me, she gave me to a family that would and could. And for that, I will always be grateful. God has a purpose for EVERYTHING.
So...I just get really annoyed with how socially acceptable abortion and Plan B have become. These Plan B advertisements just seem to push themselves as the easy way...as simple as taking a Tylenol for a headache, but I urge people to really think about what this "1 Step" really does. I also find it absolutely fascinating that when I see them on TV HERE (this could be different where you are...I've just noticed a pattern where I live), they're marketed on Lifetime/Lifetime Movie Network (I'll also add that I typically don't watch these channels..because they often "man-bash") as well as LATE at night where they know they will reach their targeted audiences. The station that I have seen these advertisements on THE MOST is one through Nickelodeon, which is currently called "The N" and is getting ready to switch to "Teen Nick".....(and let's not even focus right now on how pathetic I am for watching said channels...but I do watch it b/c of my secret love for That 70's show and What I Like About You...don't judge me....we'll discuss that another time). All of the shows on this particular station are geared towards high school/college age people...coincidence? I THINK NOT.
But anywhooo....that's one of the things that my mind seems to wander to these days. We live in a crazy world, and I'm scared for these next generations. The social norm has so obviously changed. I feel that it was bad enough when I was growing up....and I shudder for my nephew and nieces as they grow up in the current society in which we live. That's why it's SO important to TEACH them what is right, so they can pass it down to their own children and so on...
*steps down from box...at least, for now* :D
