Alright, people. I'll admit it. I'm an Entertainment Junkie. I've tried the 12-step programs, but to no avail. I've tried cold-turkey....nada....I've tried giving it all up little by little...but alas, I'm weak. But it's ok. Why, you ask? Because I've learned in recent years how to choose my friends. Basically, the fastest way to my heart in regards to friendship is to tell me that you subscribe to US Weekly or OK magazine....or to even let it slip that you find yourself inexplicably drawn to said magazines in the store. Either way, there's a good chance that I'll ask you to be my new best friend. Kidding, kidding. However, it won't hurt your case....(Though...upon reflection, I must admit that I'm currently looking for people that are more obsessive than I am...just to make myself feel better. Don't judge me. That's just how I roll.)
Now, I'm going to blog about a tricky subject. What is it, you ask? Government health plans? The economy? No...not this evening, at least. Three Letters. V-M-A. Yes, folks, that's it. The annual MTV Video Music Awards. Ok, half of you have stopped reading. That's ok...I'll have better/less worldly posts another time (Insert Promise HERE). But for this evening, this is the avenue I have chosen (Dundunduuuuuuun)!
When I was in Jr. High/High School, I used to LOVE watching the MTV Movie Awards and the VMAs....though I must admit that I had to do this at a house other than my own since MTV was strictly forbidden in my household. (Don't worry...my parents weren't crazy and overprotective...but they did have fairly strict TV policies when I was younger, and I respect that....however, at the time, I guess I didn't respect it in the way that I seemed to break the rules...*shrugs*....I don't think I turned out that badly, in retrospect.) So I would go over to Hoov and Janet's house (my oldest friends....those aren't their real names...but it's what they've gone by for years....and they're the ones who have called me "Coli" for just as long), and we would watch them and have a crazy good time. WELL...eventually, I moved to WA and figured out there were more important things to life (Insert God here ;) And the fact that almost all of my friends were my surrogate "big brothers" who were 2-5 years older than me and preferred to shoot things, play games, and drive fast cars...and motorcycles...gah), so I stopped watching them...
Probably a good idea.
This all changed for the year of 2009. I can honestly and officially say that I have watched both the MTV Movie Awards and VMAs for 2009. And there's a simple explanation. Twilight. Well, the Twilight Saga, to be exact. And again, DON'T JUDGE ME. It's not like I'm a closet Trekkie or anything...though I must admit that I liked the most recent of THOSE movies too...eeep! For the Movie Awards, I wanted to see Twilight demolish its competitors (yes, Slumdog, I'm talking about YOU), and we all know it will never win any Oscars and what-not. And the Twilighters did not disappoint. As for the VMAs, I was watching for the newest New Moon clip (seriously...is it not November yet??? I will even succomb to the big 2-5 if it means that I can be in a theatre with KK that much sooner). However, as I awaited this highlight to my life (yes, highlight...I'm unemployed and sad, so there's a number of things that bring me joy), something else distracted me....and not in a good way.
Seriously....who keeps inviting Kanye West to events in which he must actually interact with people? The buzz that keeps buzzing.....the event that rocked the VMA world....when Taylor Swift wins for Female Video, and in the middle of her speech, Kanye decides it's appropriate to jump on stage, steal sweet Taylor's mic, and proceed to tell the world of the greatness of Beyonce. Socially retarded, I tell you. Socially retarded. I, personally, don't care HOW MUCH Hennessey he pumped into his system....totally inappropriate. And the world has spoken. And it has said, "Kanye who???" On the same note, I was also under the opinion that both Taylor as well as Beyonce exuded CLASS when handling the situation. Beyonce was kind enough to let Taylor have her moment in the spotlight, and Taylor refused to go negative.
Ok, let me just say another two words....Lady Gaga. What in the world? Ok, I'll admit it...I've been guilty to have a couple of her songs stuck in my head....and many times, it's not by my own volition. However, she gave one of the WEIRDEST and most DISTURBING performances that I have ever seen in my life. I can't even describe it...so if you haven't seen it, please do (or DON'T, if you don't want to have disturbing images implanted on your inner eyelids as you try to drift off to Dreamland). But in any case, she's one crazy chick.
I'm still a little bit confused over Pink's performance as well....trapeze...hmmmm. That's all I'll say about that.
Finally, my New Moon clip (and yes, I totally said "MY") was grand. All I can say....is...amazing. If you're a hater of these books/movie, I understand....I feel that you're either an "I love it" or "I hate it"....there's really no in-between. But I must ask that you control your hatred around me...as it is, indeed, one of my obsessions. Again, don't judge me....I do enough of that already ;) I must also hand some mad props to that KStew for her part in the introduction of the clip last night. She was able to refrain from crazily running all of her fingers through her hair/constantly ripping at her fingernails with her teeth....I won't lie. I was muy impressed.
So the question is this. Will I ever watch them again? Probably not...unless, of course, there's ever another video clip, etc. that I want to see. (And to tell you the truth, I hope it doesn't happen....because I think that part of my youth is long gone). However, I already know I'll be watching the 2010 Movie Awards...just to see New Moon clean up in similar fashion ;) It's a sickness....an illness...but one that I share with a number of loved ones :D
